As I mentioned in my first blog, the idea was always clear — to build an authentic Himachali handloom brand that truly represents our culture, craftsmanship, and roots. But once that vision was set, one very important question stopped me in my tracks: what should I name this brand?
This question delayed my work more than I ever expected. Because a brand name is not just a word — it becomes the identity, the first impression, and the foundation of everything that follows. In many ways, it is the very first step of the journey. And I’ll be honest, I couldn’t take that step for a long time.
Like most people do, I started looking for inspiration in the obvious places. I thought about names connected to Himachal, khaddi, wool, mountains, and our traditional way of life. I wrote down many ideas, mixed and matched words, and spent hours thinking. But no matter how hard I tried, nothing felt right. Every name felt incomplete, forced, or simply not “us.”
Days passed, and after almost a week of being completely confused, I began to feel helpless. There was a moment when I genuinely felt that my journey might end even before it could begin. I questioned myself, my creativity, and my ability to build something meaningful. At that point, I felt like I had zero creativity and no clear direction at all.
And then, unexpectedly, clarity came.
I asked myself a very simple but powerful question: Which name has already taken our products across India? Which name has already earned trust and recognition?
The answer was right in front of me all along — Saraswati Woolen Mill.
That moment changed everything. I realized that instead of searching outside, I needed to look back at my roots. What could be more beautiful than carrying the legacy of where we started and walking forward with it? Keeping our roots alive, not just in our work, but in our name.
So, I took “Sa” from Saraswati, “Wo” from Woolen, and “Mi” from Mill — and that’s how SAWOMI was born.
SAWOMI is not just a brand name. It is a reminder of our journey, our struggles, our roots, and our belief in authentic Himachali handloom. It connects our past with our future, and every product we create carries that story forward.
